Just wanted to share my experience today. I had a short day of work today so I was trying to get some things done around the house. I had Marco outside with my while I was changing the oil in one of my vehicles. Just finished and walked into the garage to put some things away. Marco followed and wandered into a corner when it hit me that I had just set out some Decon a couple days ago because we've been having an unusual amount of mice in the house this year. I yelled "LEAVE IT" just as his nose was hitting the tray of pellets. He obeyed immediately but when I walked over to it there was an indentation in the pellets from his nose. Although he didn't appear to be swallowing anything, I still wasn't 100% sure he didn't get any in him. Took him to the vet and we decided to induce vomiting just to be safe. He vomited and there was none in it at all. So anyone on here that thinks leave it isn't a necessary command, think again. Something like that can happen in an instant and it can save your dogs life.
Often times just the loud word, any word can startle a dog into stopping what they are doing but they get the message and a new command is born!
Be VERY careful with dogs in the garage. There are way to many opportunities for them to get into "things".
I learned that lesson the hard way 35+ yrs ago.
