What I love was what came up in the 2nd post .... that Jamie has fully embraced the notion that teaching anything (tricks included!) is good .... good for confidence, for the owner-dog bond, for fine-tuning "how to learn," and for having fun with your dog(s). Fun training is a good thing.
Every time I see her threads, I'm reminded to do more "fun" with my dogs.

^^^^ Yes, this!
Loved the video, Jamie. Your relationship with your dogs is truly an inspiration to me.
In the last several years, I too have become a convert to the idea of doing fun things with my dogs, just for the fun of it, for all the reasons Connie mentioned. I admit I used to think the idea of teaching tricks or other silly things was just pointless, but I have done a complete 180 in my thinking.
I used to shy from telling people what I did with my dogs because it wasn't...what...Shutzhund, Mondio, PSA, training. But this kind of stuff really does so much for the bonding (and confidence, if a dog lacks it) and keeps them mentally attuned.
And there can be little difference between "tricks" and having jobs around the house or in the yard. It's only a matter of perspective.
(I'd like to be a dark-walker here for a second, though, for any new dog owners and say that some advanced tricks are really best taught once the dog has trust and confidence in you.)
