There's been a raccoon in my yard in broad daylight that is acting really weird...poor motor control and weird behavior. I called animal control 2x and they haven't come yet. WTF??
We have unvaccinated cats next door...oh joy. WTF

In a lot of places animal control only handles domestic animal issues, I used to pick up wild animals because I knew the nro's I worked with wouldn't respond quickly ( wait until they were sure the animal was dead). Try calling your towns Natural Resource Department they handle wildlife calls, if that doesn't work call state fish and game. Raccoons can have rabies, more usually distemper, and in certain circumstances there is a berry that can cause "drunkeness", if I remember correctly the distemper they get is not contagious to dogs. Good luck.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
I misspoke, racoons can get feline and canine distemper, the feline form is not contagious to dogs, the canine form is. The ones where I live (we had a massive outbreak years ago) had the feline form.

They finally came....the only officer on duty tonight. Couldn't find it....then I saw it after she left so she came back. We couldnt get it out from under the workshop (the shop is big). She didn't think it had rabies...but its not acting normal because it is STILL under there not foraging or trying to leave. I think its sick....maybe distemper or something. Its not aggressive at all and its gait is normal now. I know raccoons aren't exactly hyper animals...but its just seems too laid back to me.

This time of year it could be a just weaned youngster looking for its own territory. Or HBC. Or maybe ate some of those bad berries. Hopefully its a healthy coon who will move on soon.
