Wait until you realize how it makes obsolete the weight of a big heavy book while reading in
bed!
That's where I do a big majority of my reading ....
That's where I do my reading, too!
Then you know the pain of holding a book like The Story of Edgar Sawtelle or any of the major 13-zillion-page Stephen King books (The Stand, It) in one hand while reading in bed!
Yes, you could get a bad strain or sprain. I recently started The Count of Monte Cristo, a book I've never read but always wanted to. It's around 1200 pages. But I usually use a folding wooden book stand. It requires lying on your side, not your back, but I can usually get pretty comfortable.
I've also propped the book up just on an extra pillow. I like those book weight thingys to help hold the pages open (those come in handy when reading on the treadmill, too).
Back to the Kindles, my husband got his a few days ago and has barely come up for air since. He loves it, but he is a tech-oriented guy. I'm not completely sold yet; the screen size still seems awfully small to me.
OK...I will admit I am "somewhat" but not completely a techie. I love my KINDLE. The only real disadvantage is impulse buying...i.e. see a book pushed on TV, order it on the KINDLE and it is there in a flash. Positive side is I was able to order Kristel's great book and not wait for it.
Their light weight makes it really easy to hold, especially in bed. Between either my KINDLE or IPAD I always have a book with me, especially useful for sitting in doctor's waiting rooms.
I will agree with what others have said, the
IPAD is impossible to read in right sunlight, the KINDLE is not. I know of many people who have upgraded to the latest "paper white" version and love it. I have the older version with the "ads" and really not a problem.
I am not a shill" for AMAZON, but as of last night 3 KINDLE models were on sale at 20% off. Unfortunately the "Paperwhite" was not included but that is still a pretty good bargain.
