I want to get myself a POV action camera to record my own dog training. MY trusty helper is having some shoulder issues and is not able to hold the camera steady.
I was considering Contour Roam / Roam 2 , but I read that they went out of business.
I was wondering if any of our forum members have any suggestions.
Ditto on the GoPro. I have a GoPro Hero Black version and it's great. It's super small and light. You can mount it on a tripod or when using the multitude of attachments that it comes with or you can buy for it. You can mount it or strap it to just about anything.
I have a lot of experience with GoPro, and let me tell you this: If your camera guy is not steady, then you are better off with a Sony Handycam (or similar), because of the more advanced image stabilization.
If you need slow motion, or extreme wide angle, the the GoPro is great, but it also needs good lighting.
Over all, to record dog training, the easiest is the Sony with a wide angle lens attached.
GoPro is missing, what the Sony Handycam has: the picture is better in low light, it is more stable, the color correction is better, the battery lasts longer, it has a viewfinder or small monitor. You can review the footage on the camera... and i am sure there is more ...
My son & a couple of his friends took one with them to the race track when they were practicing with their 'bikes'.(morotcycles). They got some really great shots that would have never been seen without the go pro.
I made a quick movie for you, where I show the difference between GoPro and a regular HD video cam.
This video was posted as full resolution with 1080p and 60 fps, but usually I only use 720p and 30fps, because that saves a lot of upload time.
