I live about 45 min out in the country from a small town. We do have a few different grocery stores and a Sam's Club nearby. No ethnic markets. We have a farmer's market but no one sells chicken (Colorado laws prohibit). I haven't been bothering with vegies as of yet but the leftover idea is a good suggestion. We also have several restaurants but I don't have personal connections with any of them.
The closest working dog club is 4 1/2 hours away. I'm starting to try to go every now and then so maybe I could combine orders with someone there. I do have a couple of big freezers for our own cows that we butcher so storage shouldn't be a problem. I've been feeding her MM from our own beef and we're running out! She's been eating a king's diet out of convenience (we're only a couple of months into this). Can't afford to keep doing that. Still, it's the RMB's that I'm most concerned about. We butchered 20 of our old laying hens about a month 1/2 ago but she's blown through all of those already too! I don't want to have to do that every other month. It's a pain. I'd rather buy them already plucked and gutted at least.
Sounds like I just need to beat the pavement and do my research. I'll let you know what I find out. I'm trying to keep the chicken organic, or at least steroid/hormone free. I hope that's not going to complicate things. At this point I'll take anything though for the right price.
That is pretty expensive...just the backs alone are double what I pay. Did not look to see if those prices include snipping. Plus they are frozen...I like buying fresh.
I think that if you keep looking you can do better.
