I would like to purchase the Educator ET400 PLUS for my 14.5 week old Malinois.
I will NOT be using ANY stimulation until after she is done teething and has been properly introduced to the e-collar, however I would like to have her start wearing it early so she is used to having it on.
The medium says it fits up to 18" and the large is up to 22". My pup's neck is currently 12-13", but I'm not sure how big it will eventually get.
1) What is the average neck size of an adult female Mal?
2) Is the flex stretch collar included with the kit the same for both medium and large, or are they actually two different sizes?
3) Can the flex stretch collar be ordered separately if I buy the medium and end up needing a large?
I don't see the point of using an e-collar on a young dog.
Talking about neck size, I use an ETS300 Mini Einstein with my GSD, and that dog has a large neck.
We've got both ET's and Dogtras and yes, the flex collars can be changed. Just a matter of sliding it out of the receiver and sliding in a new one.
However, there are notched holes down the length of the collar. The one I use on my 110 lb Shepherd would probably also fit a Chihuahua, just a lot of collar left over. The size of the receivers may differ though.
I echo Michael's concern to. There's other training that is/can be taking place at that age and they tend to "follow you around like a puppy", why be putting the e-collar on now?
If it's the weight/feel of the collar, what about duct taping one or two C sized batteries to her existing collar? She probably doesn't need the nodes poking her right now. The transition to the actual collar wouldn't be much different, when it's time.
