Owner bikes just about daily. Not sure how long he goes or at what pace, he says he tries different trails daily.
I went with him and the dog about 2 months ago. I could not keep up with the pace, (and i have a decent bike) so last month we went on a longer run much slower.
He says the longest trip dog has been on was tipping 30 miles.
Anyways, i would be running along with the dog. Another concern. He rides the dog on a BIKE, at a faster pace than i run. in fact my run is actually quite slow. I have had my dog at a speedy walking pace while i am jogging. Most of the time dogs are trotting along with me. I do not really sprint often.
I just really hope this will be adequate for this dog used to longer distance running.
I am really spooked about those stories when DS dogs are not getting enough exercise.
I will try to get back to owner about distance dog is actually running every morning. And compare it to my 3 work days a week schedule.
Talked to owner and he was laughing so hard. We both had a great laugh. He says the dog will do fine with my regular daily dog routes and does not need any extreme workout other than maybe a good run once every day in field with the dogs he gets along with.
Thank the freakin lord because I would be so tired by the middle of my second day. I have never gone to this job and BACK more than once in a week. Im not sure if i could even handle THREE days in a row on foot.
He said he is going to bring me a few more friends with DS dogs if this goes as planned. As i really would like to get to know the breed.
I guess I have just heard so much about DSs needed most EXTREME of extreme work outs every day... I don't know what is really necessary to keeping them tired and happy. I have never cared for one.
Anyways. Normally i go to my other job 3 days a week and its only about 3 miles. That will do he says.
No extreme of extreme work outs needed. Though i CAN take him out for bike rides if i want!
Oh and I forgot to mention owner tallied up that he takes the dog for about 5 miles in morning nearly every morning. Nothing close to the extreme workout I thought they needed! ahahah Silly me. -.- They really are dogs after all?
