Thanks for sharing. I love old photos from that era, too! I live near what used to be the Willow Run assembly plant, where they built about half of all the B-24 Liberators (and where the original Rosie the Riveter worked). Funny how we can sometimes feel such a connection with a time that was before our birth.
I know it's strange! As a child I was brought up on a steady diet of westerns and war films and at the time I used to roll my eyes behind my dad's back now I get it.
I watched a one off drama called Housewife 49 last weekend, all about the WRVS and how it changed a timid and downtrodden Yorkshire woman's life.
Funny the things you sighed loudly at when you were a child can make you tear up as a middle aged adult
Thanks for sharing those wonderful pics, Tracey. Having served in the Air Force for 23 years, with tours of duty that took me to Europe and the Middle East extensively, I've been constantly reminded of the amazing bond that exists between the folks from our two great nations. I still can't get through most movies about WWII without tearing up and, living in the Dayton, OH area, we have that history all around us. What an incredible time in our history that I hope we never forget.
