I know extremly well both breeds. The new pup has been choosen carefully according Kenji's character and temperament. Both dogs have been introduced according Ed's protocol... Kenji is very well trained and my new pup will get even more obedience training than Kenji got. However, I know that I will likely have to keep them separated once the Akita will get older. This is not a problem at all.

Okay, that's ALL GOOD to hear, Sebastien
IF that "same sex Dog-Aggro invisible button" ever does get pushed (so to speak) there is virtually NO off-switch for an Akita -- Of course you can learn to control their behavior In Your Presence through consistent obedience training & pack structure protocol ... However, then it would never be safe to leave them loose together while you were even in another room.
But it seems you are already well aware of this issue with both breeds ... Fool-Proof Management would be the KEY
@ Candi
I fully agree with everything you wrote.
Also you're right to highlight the "same sex Dog-Aggro invisible button". I should have been more chatty since the beginning :-)
