Hi all
The problem I have is my 8mth gsd Saffy jumps up at people whenever on walks or they go to great him.He is very friendly but also has a habbit of being very mouthy. I have tried practically every trick in the book to stop this annoying behaviour but nothing seems to work.I do take him to training and does everything well at class and in the home but when I try to get him to sit when people approach or say a friend he jumps up tail wagging like an excited lab! I am really at then end of my tether with this dog as he doesn't do it with me at all.I have read Ed's articles but unfortunately I live in the Midlands UK so thanks to the tree huggers as Ed puts it and I couldn't agree more, there are not prong collars available.I was going to order one from the main site but due to it not being used here I thought better of it.I would be ever so grateful if someone could give me some advice on how to handle this,or even if there is anyone here in the UK that could give me some advice
Cheers
Steve
Steve, your problem is the dog is not trained. It does not work under distraction - that translates into not being trained. A partially trained dog is like a partially pregnant women - there is no such thing.
If you can't lay hands on a prong collar get one of the Leerburg dominat dog collars. Fact is some dogs have better results with these than a prong - they dont stimulate the dog as much as a prong.
