You can mark the behavior verbally yourself without problems. Many trainers will do that with a client who is having trouble getting everything at the right time and in the right order.
I also use "good" as a bridge, or sometimes something longer than a bridge that is not necessarily going to result in a terminal "yes" marker.
This is a billboard point for any lurkers who may be fairly new to marker training. As the dog matures in the marker system, he will begin to understand that he is working to complete a behavior, and bridging to completion or release will replace bridging to the terminal marker (reward).
An example would be the recall that my dog was taught with markers. I call her and she starts coming, but I bridge her to build enthusiasm. This keeps her coming and helps build speed. During the learning phase, I would have marked with a "yes"/reward when the dog came in, but eventually I phase the mark/reward out, even though I encouraged her on the way in.
Once you have phased out the reward, you can continue building duration with the non-reward marker, until that also can be phased out, allowing the dog to complete complex behaviors in a competition OR everyday environment without frequent marking.
