I like the Happy Howies a lot. And they are made in Michigan, which is awesome!
P.S. When you dehydrate meat, you end up with about 1/4 of what you started with. So if you dehydrate 1 pound of chicken breast, you are getting about 1/4 pound out of it.
After using my first roll of Happy Howie's, I do have one concern to report. Being that they are fresher and have fewer preservatives, these food rolls must be treated like fresh meat.
I am used to cutting my treats ahead of time and storing in secondary containers in the refrigerator. I sometimes cut enough treats for up to two weeks, and store the remainder of the roll in a Ziploc bag in the fridge. That was never a problem with the Red Barn and Natural Balance rolls, but the Happy Howies began to form mold almost immediately.
I still like the high nutritional value and the consistency of the product, but I'm not sure that I have the time to cut bait just before every training session. I plan to buy another roll and experiment to see if I want to change my preparation routine.
I cut them up and put them in small baggies in the freezer. I take out what I need for the day and leave the rest in the freezer. The small pieces thaw quickly and I haven't had any problems with them when I do that.
