I've now received my second strange smelling batch of Nutrisource Performance food. Since the first batch with the off smell developed mold I dumped the bag out and immediately found pieces developing a white mold. I have contacted Nutrisource about the bag via Facebook and I'm calling them Monday to give them batch numbers and all that but just wanted to give people a heads up. If you use Nutrisource and get a batch that smells odd call Nutrisource and return the bag. It's not a sour smell like it's going rancid but it definitely doesn't smell good.
Needless to say I'm switching brands. I understand they are building their own manufacturing facility right now to be able to have tighter control over things like quality but they'll have to work to convince me that this food is still safe to feed my dogs. 1 is a fluke and may not have been stored correctly. Two bags that came from different sources and 4-5 months apart are a pattern.
So they sent me a replacement bag from the same lot. This one was even worse. I contacted Nutrisource and they tried to tell me that Chewy must have not stored it correctly. When I brought up that I had bought a bag in Missouri with the EXACT SAME PROBLEM they said they would check the lot for too high moisture levels.
Yikes - that's pretty bad. I fed Nutrisource for about 6 months straight but my last two bags have been Acana and Victor to change things up a bit. Guess I'll wait a bit before adding Nutrisource back to the line up...
