Do you guys recommend feeding a puppy 3 or 4 times a day? This is for a 3-4 month old lab-mix. He has big paws so I suspect he'll grow pretty big. Also, unfortunately he's already neutered, if that makes any difference. Not my preference but that's how they legally have to come from the shelter. I noticed that Ed's puppy page recommends 3 times a day but I thought I remembered 4 times a day from somewhere.
When the biggest baby puppy growth spurts are over. 6 months or so. Some pups will start leaving a little bit of food at lunch or dinner when the biggest growth periods are over.
I also will go back & add a 3rd meal back if I see a dog needs the extra calories if working very hard or often at early winter to put on a bit of weight before the colder temps hit. It used to be hard to keep weight on my male (in the pix) as he never stayed still when out in the yard as a younger dog. I would rather add a 3rd meal then to make a regular meal too large.
I do the same. If Rogue is getting too lean she gets a handful of kibble a few times a day as a snack or I'll let her stick her head in the food container and grab a few mouthfuls. I would rather do that then increase her meal size.

Ditto on the extra meal as opposed to larger meals.
I found out early with one of my GSDs He would get the squirts if he ate only one larger meal so I went to two and that took care of the problem.
