The groomer that Hoots goes to for his nail clipping has one of these pups, who at 4 months is already quite a size, and has very similar markings and appearance of the Pointer, I know they were a breed devised by an Australian in the 70's for pig hunting - thank you Google! - but I had never heard of them before and gun dog breeds are among my favourites, they are a fine looking dog!
Iv'e seen a variety of Bull breed mixes, and the same with hounds, I read one on site that the original mix was a Saluki, and most preferred is the Lurcher or Greyhound.
It is an intriguing mix to me, mostly because of my own dogs. I am looking forward to seeing the groomer's pup grow!
I think you are probably right about the illegal hunting though!

Being a longtime Sighthound fancier, I pulled up a bunch or "Bull Arab" PIX online, and really could not see any visual evidence of the Saluki or the Sloughi in those photos (or even any Greyhound for that matter) -- To my eye, they all just looked like "bully breeds X pointer breeds" mixes, but who knows...
The various many Coursing Hound breeds all have specific conformation features among them which I did NOT see represented in any of the "Bull Arab" PIX that I found online (JMO) -- Some nice-looking dogs though
Hard to deny a sight hound link in the Lurcher type "breed" but the "Bull Arab", being primarily a catch type dog is probably dominated by bully breed blood.
When I was going to a lot of working terrier shows they occasionally had Lurcher classes.
Definitily sight hound blood stood out but the few that had
Bully blood in them was pretty obvious.
What I've "read" in the past hour or two about the Bull Arab is that GSP is one of the breeds used to develope the original dogs.
