Ok then; I'll be throwing this one out and buying a new one. I'm hoping I can find the same one again. This one is the perfect size and shape to fit in the front seat of my car.
It's possible that giving it time -- lots and lots of time -- may help the odor dissipate. But like Bob, my gut feeling is that the plastic may have permanently absorbed the odor. I guess you don't have anything to lose by opening it up and just leaving it somewhere outside, exposed to the air, probably for at least a few weeks. In the meantime, you'll probably need to buy a new one.
I'm reminded of a time many years ago when my husband and I were helping some relatives clean out their garage in preparation for an out-of-state move. Buried under boxes of other stuff, we came across a tiny chest-type freezer that was not plugged in and hadn't been used in a few years. Imagine our revulsion when we opened it up and discovered someone had left a few packages of hot dogs in there!!!
I'm going to try setting it out in the sun but also start looking for a new one. I'm guessing as the summer comes to a close, they'll start going on sale and I may find one I like even better than the one I have now.
I sat ours that had food forgotten in it out in the sun. Plastics off gas when they are heated and it helped significantly.
DUH! The good old sun, of course!
Worth a try.
Nothing smells any better than good Old Fashion sun-dried laundry !!! Hopefully it will even work on stinky plastic after a few weeks of All-Day-Long exposure in a SOUTH-FACING location somewhere that no dogs can pee on it, LOL
