I agree Bob, I do not reward all the time, if Jim tells him to lay down, while I tell her to sit he gets nothing. Everything with him, is on my terms, when I choose. I have been watching him these past few weeks, and I can see he tries to get things for nothing.
I am doing her training away from him, so she has no distractions for now, he only gets the treat if he comes out of his own down, relaxed, and follows the command I told her. Than I send him off and continue with what I was doing with her. She is a pleaser, and has that look a border terrier would give you when they want to chase that squirrel but are asking for your permission lol.
Slow and steady I will have to use the prong sadly for her reactions to him, as once she is focused she has to be put away to break it..I would rather have her focus on me, so we are timing let outs. She can ignore him when he is just layong there, but on the move, her terrier comes out. So on let outs for him I start with her sits and downs. She responds super well to whistles so I think I may pull out the clicker again. I really wish he would just let go of his anxious attitude so we can all move on!
I agree Bob, my Bandit had awesome focus to the point his teeth chattered when he was waiting for the reward! He was a great listener, it wasn't easy to send him to warmer climates!
She is doing great and is walking around Jazz rather than to him, She is catching on real quick.
Sadly those bastard dogs down the road have their focus on her, so I have to keep her leashed. They have rushed us 2x's already in the past two days, she warns me with growling, so I finally have the opportunity to scare them off quickly. She is a vocal girl, and is rewarded for that. It is nice to have something watching my back while I shovel!
She has a bit of a ball obsession, so I taught the kids the two ball training, and she does awesome with that too. Both kids had her running back and forth yest evening, which helped her bond with them, now she runs to everyone happily!
After her correction yest, she no longer gets growly with her bone.
She is a smart cookie, and I am loving the attention I get back from her. It is also very nice to see the kids getting involved.
here is my fb profil pic of the aftermath of our blizzard..the snow drift is over 16ft high, and the dog pen took 4hrs to clean out!
Ours does keeps the kids busy, Domino likes to be on top of the world, and I am making manly muscles of myself..wrenched my back since half of it is like concrete..but heck, it two months we will have to run from bugs, so I will take the snow and move it just for fun my firepit is in that mess..
She treed two squirrels today, that I got to dispose of I am in love now
On a bad note, I have to shovel the right hand side of that drift, 3 ft wide, to get to my back bird feeders and firepit..and still go help a friend cut wood in the bush..spring will be a flood so I guess I get a break in May!
