I signed, but nowhere on that page was I able to actually see the letter/petition that was going to be sent to the Board of Commissioners. When I clicked on "Read the Letter," I just got a box saying, "Letter to Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners," but no actual text. I certainly agree in principle, though, and Jeff's video was helpful in explaining what's going on.
It's interesting to me that the incident that started this whole ball of wax rolling did not even involve prong collars or e-collars. Just a stupid training class instructor.
In re thoughts of not allowing trainers or instructors to touch my dogs or even my leash...
I think it a good rule of thumb. I expect an instructor or trainer to instruct or train me, and I will take that information into my work with the dog. Just as too many cooks can mess up a meal, too many trainers or instructors can mess up a dog, in my humble opinion.
I think owners who turn over the training of their dog to others... Maybe I won't go there.
In those rare occasions when I work with someone and his or her dog, I bring one of my mutts and demonstrate my suggestions using my mutt. I then watch the owner work with his or her dog and offer either pointers or demonstrate my approach to whatever we are working on.
I care for my mutts, and I think it irresponsible to create a circumstance wherein they could be treated in a manner I would not engage. But then all three of my current mutts are adopted, and it was obvious two had been subjected to unprincipled, even mean spirited training. They need no more confusion in their lives.
My mutts, my rules, my responsibility.
And yes, I am a curmudgeon.
