At midnight, I was a Shoppers Drugmart buying bottles of hydrogen peroxide and bathing him in the backyard with the de-skunking formula I got off this forum. At 1:30 I finally got to bed with a "not quite so smelly" dog.
Unfortunately when I let him out early this morning to do his business, he got skunked AGAIN!!! Because I had to go to work, I quickly set up an x-pen and left him in the garage. On the way home from work I was back at Shoppers for more peroxide. Another round of baths and again he's smelling better. (Note to self; buy more peroxide to keep at home.)
The problem now is, the whole house is smelling badly like skunk. I remember reading somewhere to boil something like cloves, rosemary or thyme to help with the smell but can't for the life of me remember which one it was. Anybody know? If not, I'll just boil all of them and hope for the best.
Kiss will be going out for potty breaks on leash any time it is dark outside for awhile.

Edit reason: spelling
At the risk of having your house smelling like some strange brew, I have heard to slice an onion in half and place in a bowl of water for "off" smells in the house. Don't know if it would work against skunk, but it did work for me for paint smell. The spices always worked to make my house smell nice, so they would probably help cover the smell, maybe...
And Bob is definitely right...Kiss will smell like skunk when he gets wet, unfortunately it may take months. I hope not for your sake
I hope the skunk finds new territory soon! (And takes the family with it!)
Ah, the memories. I remember posting in this forum about our experience with Bailey getting skunked. Not sure what you can do about the house other than wash as much of it down and as wash as many of clothes or anything else you can. I made the fatal mistake of coming in the house with Bailey after she got sprayed and everything in the house smelled bad for quite a while. Even the steam and intense heat coming from my wife's words and stares didn't burn that odor away as fast as I hoped. Time was the only thing that worked for us and after all these years, my wife still insists there are remnants of my horribly serious mistake and lack of good judgement, usually about the time we are telling friends about our experience. Good luck!
I now have 4 bowls of vinegar placed around the house and it really is helping to get rid of the smell. I had all the windows open to try and air things out as well.
Kiss actually smells pretty good and his coat is now super soft. I can't really smell the skunk on him unless I get my nose right down on top of his head. I'm sure when he goes for his therapy swim next week, he'll reek like a skunk again. Maybe I'll take some of the formula with me and wash him in it again after his swim.
As luck would have it, while driving home from work tonight, I saw a dead skunk on the road about 2 blocks from my house. I really hope it's the one that sprayed Kiss.
