Greta (now 9 mo.s) is getting too rough with Dixon (12). He's taken to hiding under the kitchen table to get some peace. We try to balance time when she's in her pen so he doesn't have to put up with her 24-7. I really think she just wants to play with him, but with the age/health difference he can't keep up any more.
I've been working on redirecting her; at what point should this turn into a correction (if any)? Don't want to correct her for playing, but I also don't want Dixon hiding under the table...
Keeping in mind I am a curmudgeon, I offer two cents worth of comments.
I have an older female GSD, who is also about 35 lbs. smaller than my two males. And while the males are not 9 mos. old, I brook no attitude toward her.
The earliest command my mutts learn is NO. And I insist on compliance with that command whether a puppy or teenager or adult or senior citizen canine resident in my house. For that matter, my children were and are, as adults, all attuned to my use of the word NO.
Now, I think it a difficult training technique to not reinforce the training of NO absent the occasional appropriate correction. I think at nine mos., a dog should have a good grasp of the command NO.
In my world, Kai, being a senior citizen, gets a special level of consideration. The males have the option of getting with the program or getting the command NO. And if the NO needs be accompanied by a correction, so be it.
Dixon should have the run of the place. Greta should respect her elders.
Two cents.

Any other thoughts / suggestions?
As a total Amateur, here's my 2 cents:
What the Guys already said
Your OLD fella should NEVER have to Endure any Pestering from your YOUNG girl, Period -- Hiding and being Harassed in his own HOME ??? "Not on my watch"...
So long as the Pup has NOT been Trained & Proofed in the !NO! command (or !AUS!, or whatever you use) then she should Not be Allowed out loose with him, IMHO -- Of course Corrections will enter into her TRAINING ... And you will Not be Correcting her for playing, but you would be correcting for DISOBEYING.
Agreed to all - any corrections for pestering the older dog, would be a pack structure correction. She would not be allowed to do this in a pack setting - the older dogs would correct her. Your old boy is waiting for you to give the corrections, as YOU are the leader and the one that is supposed to do that.
If you do not want to correct her, that is your choice. You can keep her on leash in the home so that she is not free to bother the old man. He has earned a peaceful retirement.
Thanks all- first puppy so just not sure about some of these things. Sounds like we need to get a pull tab or cut an old leash and attach it to her prong to wear when she's running around. I think she has an understanding of 'nope' in the "that's not it, try again" sense. I'm guessing that "stop that right now" should be a separate 'no' with a more commanding sound/inflection. We spent so much effort on redirecting that we may have missed the plain old 'no' command .
