I posted the "dog with sensitive stomach" thread a few threads down. Her blood labs came back with an extremely elevated ALT (495 - normal range 10-100). All other levels were normal. We are now feeding her Purina EN (vet formula) along with dissolved fatty acids, digestive enzymes and a multi-vitamin plus extra protein - no extra treats. Will take her back to retest in a few weeks. She has been fine since the diet change (took her about 3 days to recover from that last vomiting bout - we have our normal exhuberant pup back, thankfully), but she has since been exhibiting some different behaviors, some good - some bad.
The good ones:
1. She has ALWAYS been carpophagic..(don't know if I spelled that right, but you know what I mean)..dug out her poop from where ever she could find it (we try to keep it picked up as best we can, but always manage to miss some. She has stopped this behaviour completely (like magic).
2. She was producing stools about 3-4 times per day before; she is now down to 1-2 per day (sigh of relief).
The Bad One:
3. She has now become the theif pup...snatching anything left on tabletops, getting into the garbage, almost constantly through the day - to the point where I have tied her drag leash to my belt loop or will crate her if I can't bring her with me. It seems the constant search for food. I feel bad, but my vet has recommended that she get nothing other than her meals (2x/day). I keep a pocket full of her daily allotment to use as treats to reward good behavior and work on commands throughout the day, but it seems once I let her out of my sight, she is into something....she did this only on rare occassions before (NEVER took from the trash can, sometimes stole napkins from the table). Can't figure if this is adolescence or diet related...any insight from the experts?
Thanks for reading. I know this is not necessarily a question, but thought it made some good fodder for discussion and an opportunity for those with experience here to share their insight.
