Choosing with our brain instead of our heart isn't always easy to do, especially with a rescue.
MUCH truth to that, Bob, and it can save us a LOT of trouble in the end -- But as I also let people know, bottom line: it's a "close second" that you likewise LOVE the dog ... Which is to say that a certain "affinity"/"chemistry"/"spark" may very well be the final factor in deciding which dog/pup to Choose In the long run, our canine relationships are an Affair of the Heart after all.
I'd have difficulties with chosing! I love every colour of a dog. Just a coincidence that 3 of mine are mostly black and white. I've chosen the Pits according to the behavior they showed towards me., but without any test-results in my head like you. (Except health)
The rescues as you know just with the heart. What should I do, if I met a fifth one, who needs help? Just let him where he is, even when dying.? Actually 5 dogs would be tooooo much for me. What concerns this I'd use for a change my brain, you bet.

Rescue groups are very seldom here. Some perhaps in the region of metropolis. But as far as I've heard they're hopelessly overloaded. I think I'd try to find someone to take care of him. We could afford a 5th one, but it would be definitally a question of time, I could not care enough about the others anymore + that I can't know how they'd react.

Agree 100% but I have l;earned not to fall in love with a new pup untill after I've tested the litter.
No doubt that "love" is what also draws me in on a particular pup that has impressed me with it's test scoring in my head.
Example
When I tested Thunder's litter in their 4th, 5th and 6th week of age I had picked out two really nice pups.
A small bi-colored female and a nice sable male. Both were dead equal on how I tested them.
I chose based on color.
Within 6-7 months Thunder became the best dog I've ever owned out of 20 or more personal dogs.
Not love at first sight but totally impressed with his behaviors....and his color of course.
YEPPERS, if all other things are More or Less equal, then choose the one you're drawn to the MOST -- "There is no accounting for taste" And on the other hand: I wanted a certain color/pattern of Akita when I went to Temperament Test the litter ... Of the available pups, hers was the color & pattern I liked the LEAST, but she aced the Temp Eval with all the scores I wanted, then once Shaka was MINE, hers became my FAVE color/pattern of Akita !!!
