Greg Naranjo Webboard User Reg: 05-24-2004 Posts: 74 Loc: Maryland & Miami, FL Offline	I've read that plain yogurt, w/o sugar, is healthy for a dog's digestive tract. Does anyone do this and if so, how often should one supplement the dog's diet with yogurt?

Just depends on what your dog can tolerate (some dogs are more lactose tolerant than others). If you give too much too often you will know. Lisa Swanston Webboard User Reg: 08-03-2001 Posts: 1588 Loc: Offline	John, Since most dogs can't even metabolize the sugar in dairy products (lactose) due to a lack of the digestive enzyme for that sugar (lactase), I doubt that cancer is a serious risk. Gas and diarrhea as the lactose passes through the digestive tract are probably a more immediate and realistic concern. But since yogurt contains live cultures that metabolize the lactose, yogurt contains less lactose than milk, and so is tolerated by some dogs. Since glucose (sugar) is neccessary for essential cell functions, I doubt that sugar causes cancer.
