My father and his girlfriend just got a 7 month old GSD chech x east german lines, she is massive and is very well balanced mentally.
I have offered to train her in SCH, but she is to live with them. She is everything i ever wanted in a SCH prospect <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> its always the way!
What i want to know is if you experienced folk out there think it is possible to train someone elses dog that does not live with you in SCH successfully?
I have taken her once and she did well and she minds me already, learns SOOOOO fast that she is a joy to be around!!
Also with a dog that is keen and a club that is being very helpful how long about would you think it would take to get her to her first trial?
I Know these are long shot questions but any thoughts would be appreciated. They are happy to do as i tell them around her when she is at home german commands, bite roll work the way i say and when to do it and when to stop etc... What do you all think?????
The only thing I've ever seen with people training others dogs for them is that the dog stays with them for awhile during training. I think it's important for the dog to bond and completely focus on you, I think it would be difficult with her going back and forth.
I agree, while I don't think it is impossible to do it the way you have said, I wonder if they will be doing things as you say while you are not around.
I would either want them involved in the training, in all aspects, or out of it completely. Too many things can come up that they are either correcting the dog for at home or not and you are trying to do the opposite.
Thanks for the replys, They are very willing to do things my way and will call me to check on things that i have not spoken to them about.
The reason she can't stay with me is that she is on a breeding contract for her first litter when she gets older and in the contract it says that she is to be housed only on their property.
They are not "trainers" so her main activity will be going from her kennel to the day yards and all i have asked them to do is correct her if she barkes at other dogs and if they realy want to play with her they use a bite roll or her ball on rope and keep it simple and only work on her grip ie put pressure on the toy to get her to hang on and give her a clear out command to remove it rather than let her just drop it. They are also under strict instructions not to bore her with it, if she is not interested don't force it - keep it interesting.
If you guys can think of any other usefull instructions they should have please tell me. I want this dog to have as good a chance as she can in the circumstances for 2 reasons 1. She is in my mind perfect for it and it would be a waste for her to miss the oppertunity and 2. They have told me that for every title i can get with her i can have a puppy - i only want one and to a certain stud so that i can have my own stud dog at home to work with.
Thanks again
