ACK! The ants have returned to Georgia
I track with just pieces of science diet, the dogs eat it well enough for footprint tracking. It is a bit greasy however, and after allowing 20 mins to let the track age, many pieces are crawling with black ants. I avoid ant mounds carefully, but the little buggers ( get it? Buggers? Hehe...I kill myself! ) are everywhere.
Any suggestions for ant resistant tracking bait?

Anyone that has something ANT proof will get rich!
Butch replied:Will have you tried tracking early, early in the morning. Ants don't seem to be as much a pain in the butt early.
Yep! it's ANT time of the year again.
Microwave bits of hot dogs... for some really odd reason, the ants don't like nuked hot dogs...
Will I track early in the morning as ealy as i can ,i use hot dogs ,kibble and baked liver . But you are right the ants are out and soon in LA the bittings bugs will be here also by the 100's Peter
Well, down here in the Caribbean, people actually fish and eat barracudas. To test the fish to see if it's 'poison' a piece will be offered to the ants. If they don't eat it, it's 'poison'.
Do you want to feed your dog something the ants won't eat?
Mike,
Ed has a recipe for ant resistant/non greasy bait that you can track with- it's great to handle, leaves no residue but the damn ants like it *better* than weniers! Cripes...I just can't catch a break for track training
