Those aren't my techniques, I don't have any. Unless she can see a professional then I don't see what else she can do.
She justed asked what could she do and I was using those as examples, meaning there would be something that could be done, whatever that would be. Don't worry no one's trying to take over your crown. lol
If your dog turns into Cujo then get rid of it. IF you don't feel that's necessary then deal with the consequences.
The dog has bitten more than one child. And you want to know what you can do so it wont bite kids anymore(the bad ones) and you can trust it and go about your life as normal.Problem solved!??? If you think you can ever trust this dog again your wrong. Heres what I tell my clients," we can train the dog so you have control over the dog and you can create similar scenerios and train your dog to respond correctly, but I would never trust the dog around kids again." You can either take on the responsability and keep total control of your dog at all times or you can decide life is to short to have a crappy dog.Im sorry you have this burden but ifyou keep the dog I would go through obedience training because lots of JRT are pushy little dogs and this could be the begining of a bigger problem. I have a friend who was holding his beloved JRT in his arms, somebody knocked on the door and it literaly ripped his bottm lip off. They are not harmless little dogs. This must be well thought out and taken very seriously.
Stop making excuses for your dog and start training it!
Whatever Brad... posting questions is one thing, posting answers when you have no experience is another.
Todd, I am lurking about... trying to pack.
Sadly, I have been on your side of this issue once before. My grandparents had a lab that was housed in a run and the neighbor's kids did the same things you mention. He later bit my next door neighbor on the face. She was 5 at the time. I just saw her again about a year ago (14 yrs later) and she still bears those scars on her face. The dog, in the end could not be handled by anyone but me and my grandfather. I was heartbroken when he had to put that dog down, but I understand why he did. When a dog associates pain with children, it is not a good combo. Add to that the high pitch voices and erratic movements and you have a disaster in the making.
Fair enough Deanna. If I over step my boundaries I'll admit it.
One thing, and this irritates me because it goes on a lot. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE between me and a lot of people that post on these web boards in regards to dogs is . . . I admit I don't have the same experience as the big guns.
And in regards to making personal comments, I don't think that's necessary. The only thing that it does in my opinion is make people mad and keep people from asking questions and trying to help others. JMO
There's a lot of people that come in here new and they get trashed so hard that they'll continue the same habits and won't come back. If the person is asking for help and then says no, it's wrong then that's one thing.
I wrote what I did because didn't think the situation was as bad as the Cane Corso situation. I'm aware that a house cat can inflict serious damage if it wanted to. I just trying to make her not feel too worried yet. If I was wrong then I apologize.
Well, that being said I am closing this thread. When the posts get this long it is hard to follow the questions. If anyone wants to start another thread feel free. (including the original poster)
