With high drive dogs, that works out to be a great exercise that can be done several times a day ( hey...you're letting them out anyway, might as well mix some training into it )
I only wish all their 'sits' and 'downs' were as fast as when at the door...
Gosh Ann! I totally know what you're saying! My pup's constant staring is really getting on my nerves.
"WILL YOU STOP LOOKING AT ME!"
I was even thinking about posting the question: How do you get the dog to quit focusing on you?
he, he, he...
And the problem is that when you DO want that attention, it's sometimes not there!
I have posted before that I have a 1/2 DDR handler sensitive dog. I made the mistake (as a newbie to Sch) of following a TD's advice to "prong the sh*t out of her" when she wasn't heeling properly, with the consequence that our formerly decent OB routine went to h*ll in a hand basket, the dog then heeling like she'd been beaten into submission! After getting some advice from a breeder of DDR dogs, I changed my training methods and this is now the result:
Still working on extending that focus period, but she will do about half the routine now with the ball out of sight. (the handler also needs to work on keeping her own head up... )
I don't mean to be pushy and I can't even fathom the time it takes to edit all of the hours of tape you guys have, but I was wondering if there are any new video releases in the near future. I have read that there are about four new videos that you are producing with Flinks and I was just wondering if any of them might be around soon. I just ask because they are such incredible videos and the information that is contained in them is invaluable. Any news you could give would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jake
Only Ed can answer this one - but more tapes are getting close to being finished
I think the next Flinks tapes to be finished by Ed are going to be called "Training a Competition Heeling Dog", "Introducing Your Dog to the Helper", and "Training the Out"
Checking the front of the website here is a good way to see when the release dates for upcoming video's are firmed up.
