Hi, I have the Bite Training Puppies, Your Puppy 8 Weeks To 8 Months & Training Drive, Focus & Grip videos but i have no plans to enter schutzhund or any other sport...strictly family & home protection & these videos will help lay a foundation. The focus video seems to be geared toward sport competition yet a good portion of it applies to all protection dogs. Is this an all or nothing situation? In other words do i have to apply all of the instruction in the video or can i use a portion of it without compromising the training?
Thanks
Luis

My dog is being trained for Search and Rescue, but I've pretty much followed the Drive focus and Grip video and the others you mentioned from the beginning. These can be used to train dogs for anything, IMHO. I guess you can look at it as developing a reward system for the dog. Is grip training necessary for SAR? Of course not, but my dog loves it, and understands the rules. The only difference between my dog and a Schutzhund sport dog is my dog gets his kong for a reward, the sport dog gets the sleeve. It's all about working with, and developing the dog's natural drives/attitudes/temperments, etc. Working with your dog in ANY capacity will only help it become a better member of your family.
