Dave, I'll put my two cents in about the Y-connector. I had thought about getting one for my dogs, but thought better of it due to the following situation. My dogs don't fight when we're on walks...EXCEPT when we encounter another dog who has become agressive towards us. My dominant dog will take out his frustration at not being able to get to the agressor by laying into the other dog. This has happened to me a couple of times, once was potentially very serious, but luckily I was able to pull them apart by the leashes.
I'll admit, I have not been sucessful in getting both dogs to heel together on walks, so I take both leashes and wrap them around one hand, shortening the length so they don't have enough room to goof off.
I have seen something advertised that I've been thinking about getting, but I'm still not sure if it would still be safe. It's 2 separate leashes that connect to one handle w/ a swivel connector so you don't have such a handful and won't tangle as easily.
