I dont know if this is the proper thread for this but I assumed she was an American GSD. We got her from a friend of a friend. We have her AKC papers and her pedigree (4 generations), the breeder is from Oklahoma and we live in New Jersey. How can I find out more about her and her lineage??? She has a champion in her pedigree, Piper Hill's Polo is his name, and all the names on the pedigree sound German. Please for give my lack of knowledge, while I have admired the breed forever I know very little. Thanks. Chris
Chris-
You can tell a great deal by the pedigree...
If any of the lineage is german they but the country abbreviation in ( ) after the dogs name.
I can tell you a champion title is an AKC title and I dont know any show people that would compete in AKC with a German line dog....besides they would most likely not get a CH title as the AKC "standards" are even more whacked out than the SV's. I like the working line look!! Another clue is the kennel name you gave..it sounds like a AKC type kennel. You can tell if you have a german line show dog if there are V ratings in the pedigree, but I dont believe the AKC recognizes them, if so they would not be listed. I dont own show dogs so I'm not sure.
Also if you want to research a dogs name off the pedigree the are alot of pedigree search engines online, and also some american line ones.
Hope this helps.
I remembered reading in Ed's Q & A section about a dog that was afraid of stairs- here it is:-
QUESTION:
Hi. My dog is really scared of stairs, and we have a lot of them. Could you please help me get her to go up the stairs. I just got her so I'm very new at this.
ANSWER:
Drag her up them with a leash and a collar about 200 times and she will see that it’s easier to come up the stairs on her own rather than be dragged.
Not subtle but I have a great respect for Ed's opinions.
I wish you much joy with Reign - she is still a puppy- enjoy her and have fun
