OK...I've been thinking for awhile about selling Maddux and getting a true working-line dog, but the problem is, I've grown attached to the pooch. :-/ I know that if I really want to progress in SchH, I should get a working Shep, but the sentimental part of me doesn't want to give him up....help please??
Speaking for myself, I would personally opt to keep a dog that I have a special relationship with than to discard them for another dog that may and may not be cut out for Schutzhund. Ask yourself this question: Are you wanting this for yourself or your dog? Just because you buy a working bloodline pup doesn't mean your guaranteed anything. So if owning two dogs is out of the question then I'd think long and hard before you pack your friends dog food.

Good Luck.
Glenn
I don't disagree with you there, but what do you mean by "think long and hard before you pack your friends' dog food?" I don't understand...?
Charline, all I was trying to say was to do your best to think through your situation because if you do sell your dog you might end up pretty sad about the whole ordeal afterwards. Some people sell and trade and buy dogs like they were a dime a dozen and it doesn't bother them. Some people like me that get attached to the bone with their dogs would find what you are contemplating extremely hard. In the end you are the only one who knows what will be the right thing to do.
Who said there was an issue with having two dogs? The origional post was about possibly selling one dog and getting another. I believe I said something about "IF" owning two dogs is a problem?????? in my first post.
Charline - If "you've become attached to Maddux and don't want to want to give him up"...DON'T! Why would you "have" to? I have 2 dogs, each treated very differently, and both think they walk on water and rule my world. (So do my kids )
Get another GSD, keep Maddux, and see how it works out. IMO - sounds like you're writing the end of the story before you've even gotten to Chapter 2....
Proud Mom of Abbey (aka "Moo") - my true soul mate...I miss you terribly and will see you at the bridge...
**UPDATE**
I just want to thank everyone for their understanding and for not totally ripping me a new one in my moment(s) of stupidity, but I'm keeping Maddux-man. Again, thank you all for understanding, helping, and not flaming me to death!! I really appreciate it!! *Hugz for everyone* <3<3<3<3<3
