Hello everyone and now straight to the point
i have gone through the web and it is somewhat confusing on which working lines are favourable for police k9 ie the ones that can work a 6km track without giving in, i read the article on FERO And why Eddy Frawley is not a fan and i AGREE with him but on the other hand most of the dogs we see these days carry that blood and some are used extensively as police studs.Eg Belshik von Eichen Bruche should we forget about pedigrees and simply look at the individuals. Please advise i have dogs with mink through lewis malatesta and crok erlenbusch and need something that will work eg pike v d schafbachmuhle
HUH????? What is the question??? See other threads on Fero...just so many Fero progeny you have to weed out the good ones pretty much from the multitudes...there are both...Lewis/Mink??? Ernst is here in US now. What is your question about Pike?

Mike,
If you are looking for an individual police dog throw out the papers and look at the individual dog.
If you are thinking about breeding dogs for the work then you are right, you won't get away from Fero (and the greatest problem with fero progeny that I have seen is a larger than normal number of dogs with environmental problems, like won't work in the dark or on slick floors and have trouble biting on stairs). Just be certain that you get it through powerful dogs and avoid line breeding to him. Not that some breeders haven't gotten this to work. A few have. Get Fero through Yoschy or Troll.
I do like some of the things Mink has to offer, good hips, prey drive like crazy. Some are a bit less than clear headed though.
I actually am a fan of Mutz Peltzeirfarm.... but alas as a male line it is essentially gone.

Not yet...I have a friend who has an 8 1/2 year old male who's male line goes to Mutz in the 4th thru Enno vom Beilstein and Anderl. I did a breeding to him last year with very nice results.
As for Mutz Peltzierfarm, I have seen a lot of aggression come through that line. I have a stud dog that is linebred 5 times on Anderl who is a Mutz son and yeah there is definitely some active aggression coming thru there. I bred to Ron Bernhard Mader once and he was linebred Mutz 4-5 I believe and he threw a lot of active aggression. Too much in my opinion.
Too much aggression eh? Hmmm...very interesting. I actually have quite a bit of experience with that line and while they do have aggression, it wasn't what I considered too much. Some of the dogs I have seen out of that line were quite balanced. Never owned one that tried to bite me either.
To each his own I suppose but I do see, more and more, a general lack of aggression in the breed. Lots of drive yes, but it is not easy to find the power that comes thru this line anymore.
I have a female with multiple lines to Anderl. While she does have strong aggression, she is probably one of the "clearest" dogs in protection I have worked. Her scores reflect that. That was the case with most of the dogs I worked from this line. Very strong but still able to hear the handler and comply. No e-collars, 2x4s or other "training aids" needed.
Thank you for your comments Will....I did it myself.
