I have had bitches not really eat for about three days. If everything else looks ok, no need to worry. Maybe Ed could give you a more informative answer, he is an expert with whelping pups.
My bitches usually don't eat during the first 24 hours after whelping. If yours is drinking a lot of water and if there is no discharge from her uterus, please check with your vet as these could be symptoms of pyometra.
Take her temperature!!! Many bitches get infections from retaining placental material. We make sure the females are taken for two (at least) short walks every day after whelping to help them expel any gunk left inside. We also monitor the temperature twice a day for at least the first week even if the female is eating and appears normal.
If she is running a fever please call your vet. Some females are reluctant to eat if they are very devoted moms, at least for the first several days but a uterine infection can be serious for mom and pups too. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
If you have any concern at all take her to the Vet. A quick shot of pit is better than a surgery for a uterine infection (including the possible removal of the uterus).
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
