I have a 12 month old silver weimaraner and she losses her fur excessively. I GIVE HER A HIGH QUALITY, no perservative, no by-product dog food and she still losses it. I am not looking forward to changing the food because she has food allergies (therefore ear infections, yeast)except with this food. I hope someone can give me an other alternative than changing her food.
Thank you
This is in the FWIW, totally un-scientific category, but ...
The local grocery store had a really good deal on canned salmon a month or so ago. It was about 40 cents a can. Since then, Chance has been getting about a 1/3 can a day along with Innova. About a week later, I noticed the piles of dog hair seemed smaller. I also don't get quite as much when I brush him
I'll try the salmnon, what is Innova?
Yes, I brush her daily and I have experience with short hair dogs (I also have a Germain Pointer) which does loose her hair, but never like my pup (weim). She is not loosing hair like if she had mange, but enough so that it's everwhere
Innova is a brand of dry dog food made by Natura. They also make California's natural and healthwise. i'll try to put the link below - but it probably won't work as I don't know jack about computers.
I would say to put her on a natural diet. Dog food is not really good for dogs and around 50% of dog food contains stuff dogs are alergic to. Look for recamended books and articles about a raw, natural diet as this is the best thing for your dog. I also have to say I have seen dogs with skin infections and tons of illnesses that get better just because of the change to a natural diet. I would also have to say you shouldn't vaccinate, and if you do, you should read the book What Vets don't Tell You, as this book gives tons of information. I would also not give advantage, frontline or anything like it. I posted a reply to the message where some one was asking about stuff like that, and you can read my reply to find out why I don't like that stuff. Thank you for reading, bye.
Hi-
I had the same problem with a couple of my pups. I was feeding Flint River, which is supposed to be one of the better all natural ones. They both started losing hair, one got an ear infection and both had skin infections.(I was also registered to sell the product and decided not too because of this). I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the food, I just think these dogs could not take the wheat in the products . I now feed Life's Abundance all natural pet foods and I use their other pet products exclusively. Their skin started clearing up after a couple days on Life's Abundance. You can see their product line at Heathlypetnet.com/workingcanines. All natural raw diets are great too.
