was walking my dog this morning and watching how the prong corrects. Now my question what is the differance between correcting on a flat collar and correcting on prong IF you are using the dead ring? Is it just the amount force needed or is it just cause its a prong?
My guess would be because the prong pinches a bit to get the dog's attention, whereas a flat collar or regular chain collar just kinda "chokes" them. My Doberman knows the difference between the collars. He tries to get away with pulling with the normal choke chain, but slip that prong collar on him and he's a gentleman.

As far as correcting him goes, I walk him and don't give him too much slack on the leash. If he pulls, the prongs will pinch, and in essence he corrects himself, I don't have to pull or jerk him to get him in line.
I have been using the prong on him for a few months. The first few weeks he did well, then he got "comfortable with it" and it seemed to not work as effecvtively. He wasn't bad, just not as focused as he should be. I got a link to the Prong Collar article on Leerburg.com through another internet forum and discovered I had been using it incorrectly <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> So once I got it fitted and started using it correctly he has been much better on walks.
as far as how i am correcting her. i have it on the inactive ring and when she reaches the end of the leash i either do a 189 and she corrects herself or i give a quick pop and she looks at me tell her good girl and treat her for looking at me.
it depends
i was just wondering about it and thought i would ask here thanks for your replys
