Hello,
I am trying to find a place in North Texas to get certified as an obedience instructor. The reason I'm interested is that the area 4-Her's want to start a Kennel Club, we have no one in the community that would help them with their dogs without driving 50+ miles. I'm on an SAR team and have obedience trained and good citizen certified my dog. Please help.
Close large cities are Dallas, Wichita Falls.
Welcome to the board, Marie!
To let you know, there is *not* a certification for obedience instructors that is recognized nation wide ( or in any states that I know of). Several dog training schools have advanced courses that offer a "master trainers certification" but those vary in both content and quaility.
For instance, the APDT ( Association of Pet Dog Trainers) which many "instructors" belong to ( and list prominently on their site) can be joined for a $75 fee- they don't ask *any* information about you as a trainer!
For actual dog training schools that have a good reputation, I could only recommend Tom Roses place in Missouri and Triple Crown academy in Austin Texas.
Well i might agree that it is good to go through a school of dog training and is very helpful to anyone wanting to get experience in the field of dog training . But i think the best way to get the experience is to train and title dogs and not just one breed. Good luck in your endevour, you might want to contact Dallas Obedience dog training club, over the years they have had some very good instructors. Peter Betchley
