i think its sixty one days...you can take the dog to a vet that has an ultra sound and they can also do blood work and give you a due date...there is more information about this on ed's website(i think its in the question and answer section on breeding)
Average is 63 days.........start taking the females temperature about 55 days after the first breeding, take a morning and evening temp and record it...when it drops dramatically you can expect pups within 12 to 24 hours....
I have had some females drop only to 98 or 99 degrees and have a litter and some drop all the way down to 97...all my dogs eat even the day they give birth although most people will tell you they don't Mine do!
your vet can also do progesterone tests but it's expensive and I prefer to just monitor temperature and behavior.... i am on puppy watch right now as a matter of fact... my mal female is due Wednesday but I have been temping her twice a day since last monday.....she is huge!

Wouldn't that make her a Melon-wa?
She looks like she ate a whole watermelon in one gulp. Such a refined girl, oh so preggers!
Ok, so what do you call a GSD that looks like she swallowed a beer keg? Got a cute little name for that?
I just call her "Pudge" and can't wait for the end of the month!
Being able to know when your bitch is going to drop her pups is based on knowing your dog. The calender can give you a date of give or take a week but not the exact day. I watch my female very close (she is a house dog) and the change in her behavior has always told me. So far I have been known within a 12 hr period. But this only works if you spend alot of time with your dog.
The behavior I look for in my female is 1) she wants to always be close and 2) she seldom takes her eyes off of me. There are some other behavior but these have been the two which are the most noticable and consistent.
I have always been with my female when she has had her pups, and I spend alot of time with her.
Gest. is ~63days, however, at the point of conception. Fert. may take place a day or two post breeding too. Ovulation is over a 48 to 96 hour period of time. So one can breed their dog every day of her heat cycle but the puppies will be born with the same age "day", because the bitch endo. system determines the point of ovulation. The best system is to monitor the prgesterone levels because progesterone maintains preg. when prog. drops below 2ng/ml. she will whelp in 24 hours. Some bitches may need a progest supp. such as regumate... to help maintain preg. too. The progest. test are ~$9.00 a test their are some very good easay tests (in house)test. All you need to do is spin the blood and use 8 drops of serum. I sell used lab equipment. Othe test to deterine whelping dates are LH test before ovulation, temp. graphing same time each day as a control, glucose strips kind of iffy,... ED I need a spell check, its late....
