I am looking into importing a titled adult, and although some importers have what seem to be very good guarantees I realize this is a buyer beware situation since it is sight unseen. Some have videos, some only photos, are these legit? Also what is the markup on these dogs? I see the same dogs at several different sites and varying prices. Any suggestions?
Unless you have someone on the otherside that you trust to find you a nice dog, you would be better off spending your money here in the US on a titled dog that you can see in the flesh. There are some good ones out there.
You can surf for some dealers, but the first question I always ask is "where is the dog?" If the answer is overseas, never mind. Crap shoot. . .I'd rather take my chances with young pups than with crappy older dogs. Young dogs are the only ones I will buy without seeing 'em in the flesh, and even then only with people that I have some knowledge of.
Good dogs are out there. You have to know and trust who you are getting them from. Ask for NUMEROUS references. Not just one or two.
As for not having the dogs in state, well I'm normally one of those as well. Good dogs don't sit in kennels. If someone has 20-50-80 dogs on site for you to see, chances are MOST of them are crap. I can only say from personal experience that unless you have a buyer for a dog at the moment a dog is avaliable, the dog is sold. By the time someone sends video from Europe to you and then to a client, the dog, if he's worth his weight in dog food, will be long gone.
It's totally buyer beware. Do your homework and spend wisely. If it's too good a deal, i's probably a bad deal. If it's crazy money...the dog better walk on water and score perfect scores while getting you a beer from the clubhouse at the same time
I suspected as much. How about a young "green"
dog? There are seem to be some good prospects out there.
I just don't want to deal with a puppy right now
I would like to have a dog with some proven talent that can teach me a thing or two since I am just getting back into this. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
