How come some Breeds have fixed genetics and some have genetic combinations?
I realise they all have combo's to a point, but what I am talking about is most breeds are breed to have maybe good eye's, speed, and ballance, or size, ballance, power and temperment and so on... or any other combination that suits it's purpose.
What I don't get is why do some dogs have fixed colors while others do not? Is it not possible to get the favorable traits and maintain consitant colors or paterns in all Breeds?
Thanks!
If death comes like a thief in the night, my dog and I wont be surprised.

I think it simply has not been selected for. Some breeders just think it is not so important to fix certain color but they prefer to look for other traits and not sacrifice those traits in order to look for fixed color, etc. They think it is just not worthed. Fixed colors for instance, are usually found in show dogs, and they have lost many other traits.
For example, some hunters do select for certain colors in order to see their dogs better and not shoot them, that's certainly an important trait in that case, and possibly made them lose some other trait when first selected for. Hunters that don't need that trait wouldn't take the time to do that selection and spend a long time trying to recover other traits that have been diminished in the process.
Just my opinion.

Pedro.
