Personally I don't like the battery operated crate fans. My dog can fart more wind than that thing blows <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> . I get the auto fans you buy at Walmart for 10 bucks and hook it into my lighter outlet. Now those can blow some air. Much better fan for the price. They clip on the crates. You find them in the auto section of Walmart. I have three of them. You can buy splitter for them as well. All three of my dogs have those fans blowing on them during training.
Even better are the heavy duty metal fans (but still small - 6 or 7" diameter) that are sold at RV places, intended to be mounted on the dash or wall of the RV. They put out some serious wind, are super heavy duty, you can knock 'em out of the van dozens of times and they're very forgiving. $25.
I bought a separate battery to run mine, but it's performance should be the same as your car's battery I guess. I have run 3 of the RV fans for 8-10 hours per day for 3 straight days at an agility trial before having to recharge. Or I'll run them a couple hours per session at sch training for 8-10 training sessions on one charge.
That's what I bought - the deep cycle marine battery. Charge it about once a month overnite. It sure does make a difference in how fast the dogs cool down cuz they really get a strong breeze.
