i'm getting ready to move into a bigger place (a nice house with a BIG yard - finally) and was wondering how to go about introducing my pup to his new 'territory.'
he's eight months old - what can i do to ease the transition, and what, if any, behaviors or problems should i be prepared to deal with?
Kind of hard for anyone to give you any ideas of what to expect if they don't know anything about your dog. But, here's what I did when my new male arrived at our house at 12wks of age...
Put the females in their crates, carried him into the backyard, tossed a ball. Watched him go get it and bring it back to me, just before he started marking the entire yard.

My recomendation is take him out side and keep a close eye on him for a possible escape from the yard. Do this several times, and then leave him out on his own for a while and have people watch to cover all areas of the fence. If there is an escape a puppy will find it.
The only problem to expect would be marking in the new house. Treat him like he isn't house brocken yet. It may take a couple of weeks for him to "claim" the house and after that the urge to mark should be gone.

he's an 8 month old GSD. obedience training is going well thus far, an on-going process as to be expected. he's well house-broken, and spends all unsupervised time either in his crate or outside in a fenced patio with a high fence - much like an outdoor run.
he's begun to show some territorial behavior, barking when people come to the door, etc. (i've posted on these issues before) and overall seems to be very confident.
i'm just wondering if people out there have experience with adjusting a dog of this age to a new home. will he 'freak out' and act scared of everything all over again? should i expect housebreaking incidents? things like that.
i know he's gonna love the new yard and all the training and playing space that go along with it, just would like to know what i can do to help him feel more at home and if there's any behaviors he might exhibit that might take a little work.
