If you haven't read Ed's article on breaking up dog fights lately, re-acquaint yourself with it.
I got reminded of this last night-one of my regulars came in wrapped in gauze from his fingers to his elbow on one arm, and from the elbow to shoulder on the other. What wasn't wrapped looked like raw meat.
He had tried to break up a dog fight-reached right in to "save" his dog. Thought it would be a matter of picking his little guy up and holding him out of harm's way. And said with great shock-"My own dog bit me, man!"
Thirty-seven stitches.
Knowledge is Power, they say and In this case it can keep skin on your frame. Or at least more skin on your frame. He tried a brave but follish move.
I'm surprise the both dogs didn't bite him. Not being smart alec, just sh#@ happens, and that happens often then you think.
Next time grab the other dog by his rear legs, then try calling your dog off. Not taking any credit for this, I got this from Ed's dog fight reply, it sounds strange but when you think about it makes a lot of sense and it works.
