Can anyone recommend any info regarding breeding programs and genetics. I am wanting to understand the 2-1 and 3-1 linebreedings and what is acceptable and what can be expected in matching dogs with certain attributes.
I currently own a couple of dogs that come from a rare breed, and the breeds gene pool is somewhat limited. The few folks that own them here in the states are already breeding, but I am wondering if any of them know what they are doing. If I decide to breed my female, I am wanting to know how to do it in a manner that will benefit the breed best, especially consider the small gene pool. i.e. my female has the same dog listed 3 times in the fourth generation of breeding... Or at least I think that is right, he is her great great grandfather in three different breedings. I hope I am making some sense.
Please recommend any books or article that can help me understand dog husbandry and genetics better. I hope to share any info I learn with other owners and establish a club to help keep the breed healthy in the future.
