MY puppy is six months old and si ts on the side of her hips. She will sit right at first but if i tell her to stay she then leans on her side of her hips. I have been told that this is because she has bad hips and that she will olny get worse with age. I think that she should out grow this some time soon. She will be a year in May and want to do x-rays to tell if she will have good hips when she turns two. I try to keep her light and only feed her two and a half cups of food per day. our walks have gone from aroung the block to going around three blocks. This i do once a day. Once a week i will take her for a long walk that takes about one half hour to forty five minutes. I let her run after her ball when we are in the field across the street. We play for about fifteen minutes. Her weight is about forty-two pounds. do you think that i am doing what is right for my puppy to help insure that she has goog hips for the resat of her life.

to worry is to pay interest on a debt you dont even own
Go to your vet and have preliminary xrays done. They can be done any time after 4 months of age and are fairly accutate for determining early signs of HD. Save yourself worry. Also if she is dysplastic and you should choose to do surgery, it is easier on a young dog without the arthritic changes present.
If I remember correctly my pup used to sit strange from time to time as well. It was something he definately grew out of. Ask people (gsd people) who they recommend for hip x-rays in your area.
I agree with Deanna.... go see your vet for x-rays, but don't get too nervous... our Rott sits that way all the time and his OFA rating was good.... sometimes they just like it that way! I was extreemly nervous about HD and wanted to keep my boy on the small side (he's 93 Lbs. Dad was 119 and mom was 109) I talked with my food supplier who reccomended heeping him on large breed puppy food until 18 months of age. My vet agreed that the high protein low carb approach would heep him lean and smaller while his growth plates hardened.
