Im getting involved with Decoy work with my local Police Department. Can someone recommend the type of material that my scratch pants should be made of. Im confuse as to advantages and disadvantages of all the types.
Hello, if you are going to be working with police K-9's you should have the dept. provide you with pants and depending on what you are going to be doing you may need a body bite suit since most police dogs bite any avalible spot on the body. There are so many types of scratch pants out there you are not to limited to one kind but you want protection from cheap shots taken by some dogs, with clean dogs an apron is sometimes all that is needed but these are not police K-9's they are sport dogs.
scratch pants are not bite pants, they for safty(yours) and should be worn anytime that your doing bite work. they should not be tight. you need to be taught how to slip a bite.
have fun, be carful

If you are a new helper and are considering scratch pants you need to first be sure that the dogs you will work are notn going to bite into the legs. Scratch pants are not bite pants - their purpose is to keep you clean and stop you from getting scratched by a dogs nails.
The scratch pants that I chose to sell are imported from Belgium. They are made of nylong with a light padding and a felt type material for inner lining. There is an adjustable waste belt and most importantly I have my pants made with wider legs so helpers do not have to take their shoes off to put the pants on.
