I have a 15 month old male gsd when he pees he squats like a female never lifts his leg and pisses on the fence when and if do they usually pick up on this? when he drops a log he will somtimes scratch and tear up the grass what exactly is the point of them doing that.
My English Springer came to me as a neutered male at 1 1/2 years of age. He always squatted when he peed. Fine by me! When I got my female GSD and she experienced her first heat (the Springer was then more than 2 1/2) this was when he started lifting his leg. Maybe something clicked in his head, who knows It may have to do with maturity and dominance. Now he wants to give everything a little squirt!
He always likes to kick up the ground when he poos. I understand this to be a way of 'marking' territory, or letting other dogs know 'I was here'. My GSD does it too, in a cute little feminine way.
Some dogs that are nuetered early will never lift their leg. Then there is my nuetered JRT. He still tries to piss higher, farther, more often than ANY male I've ever had.
My 2 year old male gsd attempted a couple of times to raise his legs but he seems to have settled on the squat. This is only on the condition though that his head be buried in a hedge or bush?! My gsd pup raised his leg from the off.
Both of my dogs are neutered. The 2yr old, 100 lb Golden male squats like a girl! My 15yr old beagle lifts and kicks the grass up afterwards like he's saying "HA! Take THAT!" I figured that was territorial marking. And he marks EVERYTHING, even when he's got nothing left to come out...drives me nuts!
Back in his pup years the beagle once lifted his leg at a stop sign and started POOPING! My husband and I laughed so hard...poor little guy looked so confused like "Huh. That wasn't supposed to happen..."
I have never seen a dog so embarassed!!!
Proud Mom of Abbey (aka "Moo") - my true soul mate...I miss you terribly and will see you at the bridge...
