I am curious about some behavior my Malinois has been demonstrating as of late, particularly when it is raining and/or quite windy.
I typically put my dogs in the garage at night. This is to help protect them from the elements, as well as to assure my neighbors that they will not be bothered with barking throughout the night, as is often the case with other neighborhood dogs.
Usually this is not a problem. I have a large dog house in the garage, big enough for both dogs. Depending on how cold it is, sometimes they share, other times they do not. However, when it rains or when it is quite windy my Malinois seems to be on edge, visibly agitated by the weather. Recently she has begun climbing on to the tops of our vehicles parked in the garage, scratching them up badly in some areas. Particularly my car. I realize this could be avoided by simply not putting the dogs in the garage, which is something I am going to have to consider...........some way to assure the neighbors won't hear barking in the middle of the night should I leave the dogs outside.
I am more curious as to the behavior........agitated, perhaps scared......not sure where I have never seen this behavior from her.......any thoughts?
I had almost the same problem, I have a detached garage. I put their crates in the garage and showed them where they where, put the chew toys, water a little food. I leave the door open so they can get in and out for nature calls. This did not work. they would stand in the back yard in the rain and stare pitifully at the house. then they would lay on the deck and curl up next to the door. The only thing I can figure besides the "pack" instinct, it smell's really bad, at least to a dog, in there. It's where we keep all our paint, insecticide, gas ,oil, and fertilizer. We went ahead and covered the deck. we havn't had a problem since. It was easier then cleaning out the garage.
