Well, I don't know if this is a dumb question or not, but here goes...
I recently moved to Augusta, GA. I'm from NJ myself...no fire ants there. Here in GA the fire ants are rampant. When we first moved into the house, there were hills everywhere, and I've gradually taken care of a lot of them but it seems like they just keep coming back.
I'd like to set up the dogs' kennels outside. But my concern is that the fire ants might go after the dogs...maybe attracted by dropped food, or even poop. They seem to build a mini hill on any piles of poop I leave in the yard...
Anyway, I've had about 6 on my leg at a time and they are painful! So I was just a little worried about leaving the dogs out there with the ants, and no escape.
Nasty little buggers! I have outdoor kennels that I treat every 4 wks with fireant granules. They will sting the dog just as well as sting you. Should try tracking! Not always feasible with the ants.
Ugh. They're the worst. Went tracking once in FL and was attacked by them! I'm from MD, and like NJ, nothing like them here! To say the least... first and last time I went tracking in FL!
Anyway...
Maybe try spreading Diatomaceous earth or Borax in a line around the kennel? I know regular ants don't like it, so maybe it will work against Fire ants, too?
