First off, this forum/site seems to have alot of good information on it, its just what I have been looking for.
A little background:
I am a first time dog owner and have owned Clyde for about 4 months. He is a 19month old Bandogge (neo mastiff/staffordshire terrier). My cousin had him for the first year or so and neglected him/kicked him and should have NEVER gotten him in the first place. Anyways, he wanted to get rid of him because he was tearing everything up and never listened. My guess is because when he didnt want the dog around he would yell at him at kick him out of the way etc. Tear up the yard and trash cans (my guess) because number one he was a puppy and number two....bad attention is better than no attention. When I got him he wouldnt sit, stay, or anything. He basically did what he wanted and was scared of EVERYTHING.
Now, my questions....I see the tapes description talking about puppies, etc. Since I have had Clyde, he sits, stays, lays down, etc. I have tried to work with him as much as possible from things I have been shown or learned from other people. The come command is good when there is nothing around, but if he wants to go after somthing, its like I am not there, which is NOT good.
He is a great dog, great personality, always by my side. I just want something to reassure my thoughts, and teach the RIGHT way to go about trainging so there is no question in his mind that he should listen. I just wanted to make sure that these tapes are good for not only 'puppies'. It has been difficult but we are making progress. I think its harder because he has his set ways.
BUT since I have had him he has never once torn up the yard, tipped over a trash can, etc. But then again he gets LOTS of attention and praise from me! My cousin sees the dog and asked what happened to him and what I did because he is so calm and behaved. Its called respect and attention!!!!

The basic obedience video is well worth it . I say get it , watch it several times . Apply the training concepts and when you and your dog have an understanding of how it works you may want to move on to an e-collar . No better way to reach out and touch (correct) a dog that doesn't want to hear you , running 20-30 yards away from you .Even though your dog isn't a 'new' puppy . You may also want to invest in the video 'your puppy 8 weeks to 8 months' Sometimes you might have to back up in your training and start from the very begining .
I have both of these videos in my video library I say the investment is well worth it ! When I got them I knew alot about dog training (or thought I did ) but I also learned alot ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I don't think you will be disappointed
